Pop Ambient 2015 with Jens-Uwe Beyer

Since its inception in 2001, the Pop Ambient compilation series has played host to an incessantly growing pool of highly distinctive artists, yet somehow managed to stay focussed on its overarching aesthetic ideas. Due in no small part to the series’ curator Wolfgang Voigt, each installment was able to create a conclusive narrative, succesfully deploying new talent alongside household names. “Pop Ambient 2015” will be no different, introducing debutant soundsmiths Thore Pfeiffer and Max Würden alongside Kompakt staples such as Leandro Fresco, Ulf Lohmann, Jens-Uwe Beyer, Dirk Leyers and Gregor Schwellenbach. From dreamy, jingling synth pads to guitar-infused zone-outs and rusty, dystopian textures, you’ll find a lot to love about the next Pop Ambient, expected to hit shelves on November 10th.

Popnoname & Jens-Uwe Beyer on Moon Rock 2

Throne of Blood will release Moon Rock Volume 2 on November 10th, 2014.

Label proprietor James Friedman pulls beatless contributions from far-flung producers for the Moon Rock series. The first chapter came earlier this year as a deluxe, double-LP vinyl set. The second compilation features DJ Spun’s Loose Control Band, an encore appearance for Pittsburgh Track Authority, a collaboration between Venetian artist Gigi Masin and Tempelhof, two pieces from Pop Ambient veteran Jens-Uwe Beyer and many more.

The press release says Volume 2 is “more sonically diverse than Vol. 1, presenting an expansive view of chakra-stimulating space music straddling techno, strange acoustic instrumentation and Balearic flavors.”

Popnoname on Permanent Vacation 3

Volume 3 of the compilation series, compiled by Benjamin Fröhlich and Tom Bioly.

Seven years after the release of the last Permanent Vacation compilation, the label dared to compile number three. They collected tracks that became good friends along the road and echoed in their hearts and ears for a long time. So it felt about right to put them on two sweaty compact discs. Artists include: Commix, Instra:Mental, Pascal Schäfer, The Golden Filter, John Talabot, Chateau Marmont, Beautiful Swimmers, Panther Modern, DrumTalk, Heatsick, Young Marco, RA-X, Invisible Conga People, Popnoname, The Field, Kettel, Sergej Auto, Woolfy, Project Sandro, Arsenal, Joakim, Scott Fraser, Timothy J Fairplay, Brandi Ifgray, Secret Circuit, Daniel Wang, Enchante, Bot’Ox Meets Showgirls, JR Season, A Sagittariun, Rompante, Recondite, and Charles Webster.

@ George Best

Cologne’s new label PNN shows up with artists like our Buddy Bozzwell, who sings the lyrics of Popnoname`s Flame of the Pilots a new. Pawas took Meteor on his board and Popnoname adds La Pacho from his current Live-Set. Volker Pannes leads you with Happens at Night to the highest level of ecstasy and Andrei Oid creates loops that wander into the distance and drives the beautiful harmonies of Flame of the Pilots toward freedom… but who shall bring us back to the ground? Matt Karmil, who will release his debut album in early 2014 on PNN, remixed the Bonus Track La Pacho, what was released a short time ago on a limited split 7 ” on EB.

PNN catapults you to the year 2014. Don’t sit in front of your devices – change your status to go out – dancing!

Jens-Uwe Beyer lives in Cologne, he founded the band ‘Cologne Tape’ the label ‘Magazine’ and you know him under his moniker ‘Popnoname’. Most recently he remixed the Eurythmics and Brian Eno & Cluster for the Conny Plank Tribute Compilation on Grönland. He is a frequent guest of Kompakt’s Pop Ambient series and just released probably the longest maxi in the world – the almost eighty minute (!) ambient piece “Red Book” on Magazine.
His third album 50° is an elegant, accommodating, direct hi-fi pop album which fears neither death nor pathos. It was produced in the ‘oneartist’ studio together with Bertil Mark. The journey takes us from Pop (Happens at Night and the first single Change) through ambient soundscapes (Timenation), to early 90s shoegaze moments (Meteor and Passing by) but at its core always remains the techno ideal, without promising club functionality.
For the release of 50° Beyer specially founded the new label PNN with Kompakt’s Gesine Schönrock. Accompanying the album, PNN publishes 4 music videos – an app for the i-pad and the fashion piece “Popnoshirt” you can find them at Popnoshop.com or Kompakt.fm. Bodo, who features on the cover of the album, used to live from the bottle recycling system in Germany but is now running a trust based shop near the PNN offices.
Jens-Uwe Beyer performs as both a solo act and setting permitted, with Beritl Mark on drums and the enigmatic Isis Lace on vocals.
