Wir sind im Alltag von Markenprodukten umgeben. Doch der mediale Diskurs über Marken wird allein von deren Produzenten geführt. Woran liegt das? Es liegt auch daran, daß für das Abbilden von Brands in den Medien Geld verlangt wird. In einem Film werden die Logos diskret aus dem Bild gedreht – außer der Hersteller zahlt. Das hat zur Folge, daß der Zusammenhang in dem Produkte in Filmen auftauchen allein von den Herstellern bestimmt wird.
Im Genre „Werbefilm“ ist es noch klarer – hier wird die Reflektion von Produkten ganz von den Herstellern derselben kontrolliert. Sie bestimmen die Bedeutung der Dinge, die unse- ren Alltag bestimmen.
Mit dem Projekt „Unauthorized Commercials“ möchten wir einen unabhängigen, visuellen Diskurs zu Produkten formulieren – sowohl bezüglich der Auswirkungen der Produkte auf unseren Alltag wie auch bezüglich dessen wie wir mit Produkten umgehen.
„Unauthorized Commercials“ sind Werbeclips für bekannte Marken. Die Clips entstehen ohne Auftrag. Sie sind eine künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit dem Genre „Werbeclip“.
Im Unterschied zur herkömmlichen Werbung werden die Marken im Alltagseinsatz gezeigt. Logos und Produkte werden abgebildet wie sie im täglichen Gebrauch verwendet werden.
Landläufige Werbung sucht das Produkt vom „Schmutz des Gebrauchs“ zu befreien. Bei dem Projekt „Unauthorized Commercials“ geht es genau um diesen „Gebrauch“.
Das hat weniger mit einem kritischen Diskurs zu tun, als vielmehr mit dem Wunsch, erlebte Realität zu reflektieren.

Harmonious Thelonious (Live)

Bei Harmonious Thelonious handelt es sich um ein neues Projekt von STEFAN SCHWANDER (ANTONELLI / ITALIC).
Wir sind gespannt auf sein hypnotisches Live-Set, das er selbst beschreibt als elektronisch und zu gleichen Teilen von
frühen Minimalisten (60s american) und afrikanischen Rhythmen und Spielarten beeinflusst.

ADA (DJ-Set)

Alle sind verzaubert von den verträumten Melodien, die Ada über ihre locker dahinhüpfenden Grooves legt. Zuvorderst die Jungs vom Kölner Label Areal, die Adas Karriere von Beginn an fördern, ihr den Kauf des ersten Synthies ermöglichen und im Oktober 2002 ihre ersten Tracks veröffentlichen. Kaum ist dies geschehen, verfallen DJs gleich scharenweise der bezaubernden Wärme und dem freundlichen Charme, der aus Adass Tracks spricht. Nach der Debüt-12″ Blindhouse/Luckycharm folgen mit “Arriba Amoeba/Believer” und “Lovelace…And More” zwei weitere Maxis, die Ada endgültig zu einem der gefragtesten liveacts machen. Auftritte rund um die Welt folgen, unter anderem in der Fabric/London, Watergate/Berlin, Studio 672/Köln und im Rex/Paris. Im Oktober 2004 erscheint dann Ada’s Debut-Album „Blondie“ worauf hin das Musikmagazin De:Bug sie als beste Künstlerin des Jahres ausruft.

Im Juni 2009 erscheint auf Kompakt Adas Compilation “Adaptations – Mixtape # 1″. Hierzu schreibt das Electronic Beats Magazin:” Jeder Sommer hat seinen Soundtrack. Irgendwann taucht das Mixtape auf, das einen auch Jahre danach noch an die sonnigen Nachmittage und lauen Nächte zurückerinnert. Dieses Jahr ist Adas Adaptations – Mixtape #1 ganz weit vorne dabei. Vom ersten bis zum letzten Track hüllt uns Ada in ihren anmutigen, elektronischen Klangteppich ein. Neben der Zusammenarbeit mit ihren Freunden Dj Koze und Cosmic Dj von International Pony sowie den Kölnern Tobias Thomas und Michael Mayer enthält die Veröffentlichung u. a. auch ihren sensationellen Remix von Tracey Thorns “Grand Canyon”, der gleich als Intro zu hören ist. “Adaptations – Mixtape #1″ ist kein gewöhnliches Dj-Mixtape, sondern eine sehr gekonnt zusammengestellte Ansammlung von guten Produktionen, an denen Ada beteiligt war. Auch wenn noch keine #2 in Sicht ist, ist die Vorfreude darauf schon riesig”. Aktuelle Veröffentlichung ist die Remix-Maxi von Lovestoned feat. Raz O’Hara mit Remixes von Gui Boratto und Gluteus Maximus auf Kompakt.

POPNONAME (LIVE)

Popnoname ist der Künstlername des deutschen Musikers Jens-Uwe Beyer (* 1978 auf Fehmarn)

Er lebt seit 2000 in Köln. Nach mehreren Beiträgen für die Popambient-Reihe auf Kompakt und verschiedenen EPs auf Italic und FIRM veröffentlichte er 2007 sein Debütalbum White Album auf Italic. Seit 2008 erschienen neben seinem zweiten Album Surrounded by Weather auch zwei Remixe für die deutsche Band Klee (Universal) und andere Veröffentlichungen wie Kompilationsbeiträgen auf verschiedenen Labels. Seine Live-Auftritte führten ihn u. a nach Mexiko, Sydney, Moskau, New York und Tokio.

Als Popnoname arbeitet er mit Musikern wie Jaki Liebezeit, Jan Philipp Janzen (Von Spar) und Michaela Dippel (Ada) zusammen.

Am 13.03.2010 präsentiert er seinen neuen Live-Act. Am Schlagzeug sitzt Bertil Marc, der auch eine wichtige Rolle bei den neuen Produktionen von Popnoname spielt.

Bertil ist der Mitbewohner von Thomas D, der Künstlerkommune MARS, in der Nähe Kölns.

Absolutes Highlight wird die Videopräsentation von “Hello Gorgeous”, der neuen Single auf Kompakt Pop.

Die Show am 13.03.2010 in Wuppertal wird von BRUNO TAIT begleitet:
Angefangen als Projekt an der Schnittstelle zwischen Grafik- und Lichtdesign im Club Kontext, entwickelte sich BRUNO TAIT bald zu einem einschlaegig bekannten Live-Video Act,
der durch seine unkonventionellen visuellen Experimente weit über die Grenzen Koelns hinaus bekannt ist.
Aus live gefilmten Bildern und selbst produzierten Vektorwelten, entsteht bei BRUNO TAIT mit viel Liebe zum Detail eine einzigartige Bildchoreographie.
Obgleich der Begriff VJing für das mixen vorhandener Videos steht, legt BRUNO TAIT besonderen Wert auf die eigene Produktion seiner Videos.
Die Abstraktion von Formen und Bewegung auf ihr Wesentlichstes, ist hierbei oft erklaertes Ziel, und zeigt sich in Form einer reduzierten und minimalen Bildsprache.
BRUNO TAIT will Sounds sichtbar werden lassen ohne sie zu uebermalen.
Ebenso Charakteristisch ist sein Engagement abseits der elektronischen Musik. Projekte mit Jazz- und Weltmusik brachten ihn bereits bis nach Kasachstan und in den Senagal.
Mit der Gruendung des Bandbreite-ev (2004) und der Organisation des VJ-Festivals c/o pop (2004/2005) ist er heute umso mehr Teil des Internationalen VJ-Netzwerkes.

Brut! Records baby sister label, Pop!, sees its second release with Popnoname’s Spaces. An eclectic line-up, including Joerg Burger, Freund der Familie and Paid for Fame, remix the original three times over offering varied perspectives of the same brave track. Revving its engine, Spaces drives you to experience things: it invites you to crack yourself open so that some new future might pour through that voluntary rift. Bold and beautiful and formless, it emerges: a baby nebula, cradled in the spiral arms of a distant galaxy, patiently building mass as it clumps gas and dust together.

The important things often creep up unaware. Only once they arrive do you recognize them, even though you had given them no shape in your mind prior to their arrival. Space gives possibility to what these forms might be, boundless in four-dimensions. It’s that expanding medium that allows imagination to roam without end…where the need to distinguish between what you know and invented evaporates and flows pure and clear.

With Spaces, Popnoname adds an “s” to the end of this giant 5-letter word and a plurality emerges. Definition shuffles its feet and looks to the ceiling, uncertain of just whom it might be. This record examines ‘spaces’ with different dimensions and structures. It invites you to explore sonic relationships. Each artist applies a creative force to the word and a preferred geometry settles into form: one moment a handled-cup, the next a donut, a tire, a steel nut, a pipe…ever-shifting manifolds.

On the A-side, the original track is perhaps an imprint of Popnoname’s inner shape: a confident energy creating a place where rare river otters lounge on sun-warmed rocks and thick water fills your mouth when you inhale to drink. Joerg Burger’s remix follows with a poetic sprung-rhythm. Stripping away the pop and sparkle, he studies the beauty of its reduced structure: comfortable in its naked form.

The flip side offers Freund der Familie’s abstracted take. Removing the vocals, the track slowly melts away into decaying reverb. Billowing echoes subtly elongate deep belly growls and stretch your sight beyond the visible horizon until intuition emerges. Paid for Fame closes out the record by layering the excitement of live crowds over Popnoname’s strength. Mirroring the original track, it offers a reflection in a different context, with a new interpretation.

Spaces, with its uplifting sounds and expanding surfaces, offers a solid theory as to what the elusive content (that missing mass called dark matter) of the universe might be. But you’ll have to first listen and reach for the dangling string floating by, attached to a red helium balloon, allow yourself whatever transformation might unfold once you grasp hold.

POPNONAMEことJENS-UWE BEYER(イェンス・ウィ・ベヤー)はバルト海南部に浮かぶ小さな島フェーマルン島出身、ドイツケルン在住、ジャーマンクラウトロックシーンと現代のエレクトロミュージックシーンを繋ぐ担い手としてアンビエントからテクノまで、オリジナリティ溢れる音楽をプロデュースするアーティスト。KOMPAKT創設者でありアンビエントミュージックの大家、ウォルフガング・フォイトが年に一度監修する名物アンビエントシリーズ「Pop Ambient」への定期的な楽曲提供や、2007年にITALICからリリースされたデビューアルバム「WHITE ALBUM」はドイツのインターナショナルプレスをはじめ、世界中から高い評価を受けた。2009年の来日公演時では自身自らボーカルとインストゥルメントをとるライブにより多くのファンを魅了した。エレクトリックミュージックの他に、映画や劇場音楽の制作も手がける現代音楽家としての一面も持つ。

【インタビュー】

─ミックスの録音環境を教えてください。

ケルンのスタジオで、まず「Pop Ambient」シリーズを全部聴いて、収録するトラック決めをしたんだ。ものすごくたくさんいいトラックがあったんだけど、結局削って削って30分くらいのミックスに仕立てたんだ。
このミックスに関してはディスクレコーダーで録音したけど、僕の作曲機材は、コンピューター、ギター、ベース、たくさんのシンセサイザー、ピアノ、それに楽器に限らず、僕がいいと思ったものすべてを使うよ！

─自身の楽曲を収録している場合、その楽曲の解説をお願いします。

「Pop Ambient 2009」に収録された「Nightliner」っていう僕の曲を収録したけど、僕自身の曲について解説するのは、むずかしいな……。多分僕のアンビエントセンスの中で、美しい時間を表現している曲だと思うよ。

─近況と最近の活動について教えてください。

今月、POPレーベルからシングルをリリースしたよ。Joerg Burger, freund der familie と paid for fameのリミックス入りで、「Space」っていうタイトルなんだ(http://popnoname.de/2010/02/06/spaces /)。あと”KOMPAKT POP”からもう１枚「Hello Gorgeous」っていうシングルをリリースするよ。こっちはTerranovaのリミックスが入っている。あとは去年リリースした僕のアルバム「Surrounded By Weather」のリミックスアルバム「Surrounded By Mars」がMatt Suzuki (Mars Gallery Tokyo)、Shinji Tokida (Plaza In Crowd / Fountain Music) とフォトグラファーのRikki Kassoからなる日本のレーベル”Fountain Music”のサブレーベル”Plaza In Crowd”から6月にリリースされるよ。これにはADA、the Field、Tennishero、Geiger & Deepulseのリミックスが収録される予定だよ。

─今後の活動予定を教えてください。

まず秋くらいにリリースを目指している「POPNONAME」としてのフルレングスアルバムの制作に取り掛かっている。あと新しく、バンドスタイルのライブセットのリハーサルをしているんだ。これはたくさんの人が驚く新しいものになるよ。 1人の人間がラップトップを使ってテクノのライブをしているんじゃないか、って思うんじゃないかな。それと”magazine”っていう名前の新しいレーベルを友人2人と始めるよ。このレーベルは”drums of chaos”のJaki Liebezeitや、”THE FIELD”のAxel Willerがアーティストとして所属するし、たくさんの新しいことをする予定だよ。レーベルのプランはケルンの音楽の歴史を紐解くことなんだ。CAN、 Stockhausen、Wolfgang Voigtなどのね。最初のリリースは5月になるかな。

I. Rich, melodic technopop tunes that sit halfway between club fare and home listening. It seems these are pleasant enough for almost every type of audience to enjoy.
II. Highlights from out electropop collection. Very likely they were designed to appeal a very specific niche with all those requisite sharp-edged, Casio-based noises and 80’s samples that make them feel like good old friends to us in the mid-twenties demographic.
III. It’s hard to think clearly when exposed to any sort of saturation of the senses. You’re being forced to trust your animal instincts. How could anyone avoid thinking about steaming sex while there’s a hazy, ethereal, swooping, swirling wall of sound coming out of the speakers? Maybe you were distracted. Try again.
IV. Yet another playlist filled with patches. After giving it some thought I think that the one thing these songs do have in common is that they incursioned in sounds which eventually became cliché; the pan-global influence, grime, electro, disco revival, hip-house. Regardless of fatigue I still remember them with fondness and it will be hard for me not to look back in a few years and realize how much these sort of songs helped define the promiscous musical environment in which I lived in for the better part of the decade.
